Mild Spring 2013 for Ireland

This Spring will be quite mild in comparison to the norm.

March starts off on a very cold note for the first few days with some sleet or even snow in places. This will be short-lived however and the weather will be drier and somewhat milder for a couple of days before a few light outbreaks of rain move in off the Atlantic. Around this time the temperature will be around 4 to 8c with the Southwest seeing the mildest values. As we enter the middle of the month it becomes milder still and 15c can be expected in some places around St Patricks Day as warm air from the South moves up over Ireland. It wont all be sunshine though as more Western areas can expect to see a lot of light rain or drizzle at times in this airflow with the best weather over the South, Midlands and East.

March ends with a lot of dry and mild weather though the high will move out to the West and this will allow a lot of cooler air to move in with rain in the North and West. Temperatures at the end of the month can be expected around 10 to 14c.

April will be a dry month to start but as has been the case in the last couple of years in Ireland there will be a lot of showers getting going and some of these will be heavy or even thundery. It would seem that a lot of the days of April will be a repeat pattern like this with temperatures expected around 10 to 16c.

Late April will see High Pressure build and some pleasant weather with temperatures of 18c can be expected. Perhaps the best of the year.

May will be dry to start but it will be cool and unsettled overall as the High retreats to the Azores.

High Pressure to dominate early Spring

It looks like the month of March is going to be dominated by High Pressure in 2011 with just a little rain or drizzle along the Atlantic coasts at times. Temperatures are going to vary and the first third and possibly the last third of the month of March will perhaps be when the best weather is going to occur. Temperatures could reach above the mid teens at times and may even get to 18 or 19c later in the month as the warming trend for the year 2011 continues.

As for the month of april it does look as though the showery and wet weather will make a reappearance but it still looks mild or even warm as the jetstream stays well to the North of Ireland. Temperatures in April could touch the 20c mark. Will the frosts be gone by now? The nights will still be chilly or near 0c but subzero values will be less widespread at this late stage in Ireland.

May looks like the wettest month of the Spring of 2011 in Ireland.Temperatures may not even get as high as they had done in April. It is still a long way off though and a lot can change. It is hard to pick patterns with the weather and even though the planet is currently in a warming phase each year brings with it entirely different weather and the only consistency is that hot spells are getting hotter, cold spells colder and wet spells wetter.

Spring 2011 Early Forecast

March, April and May are traditionally seen as the the Spring months and this year we are looking at a dry March and an average April with most of the rainfall coming in the month of May. The temperatures could be warm at times though..

We will look at March first as it is the most accurate month that we can predict so far. This month looks quite dry after the wet month of February. The Atlantic seems to have settled down and there is a lot of areas of High Pressure joining together all over the place. There is still the chance that the Low Pressure of Greenland and Iceland may try to make inroads to the South over us but at the moment March does look quite and dry.
